Honoring Millions of Caregivers and Their Immense Personal Sacrifice

Globally, millions of uncompensated caregivers provide devoted care for an ill, disabled, or aging loved one/s, saving society trillions of dollars annually. This care, however, can often come at an immense personal, financial, and physical sacrifice to many caregivers own well-being and health. In the United States alone, data from the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP indicate that these unpaid caregivers provide between $1.01 trillion and $1.1 trillion in essential, uncompensated care each year. Should these individuals, particularly full-time, live-in caregivers cease their care, public healthcare networks risk collapse, potentially triggering severe disruptions across global economies.

Yet, this massive, unpaid contribution to society driven by profound personal sacrifice and devotion is often not recognized, honored, or appreciated. The same is true for the many agencies, organizations, professionals, communities, and individuals who rarely get credit for their part in supporting these heroic unpaid caregivers.

Challenges

Lives Put on Definite Hold

Millions of uncompensated caregivers operate deep in the shadows, sacrificing years or even decades of their lives to devote care for an ill, disabled, or aging loved one, they step away from opportunities and viable careers, drain personal savings, jeopardize their retirement security, and entirely freeze their own ambitions. It is a grueling, relentless role defined by perpetual overtime, sleep deprivation, and acute physical, financial, and emotional exhaustion.

Family Hostility

Beyond the immense physical demands, the heaviest burden of caregiving is often psychological. Far too many primary, live-in caregivers face direct hostility and interference from their own family members. Some frequently endure emotional, physical, and domestic abuse from siblings and in-laws. These relatives often lovey-dovey until there is money involved, target the primary caregiver while isolating and manipulating the vulnerable patient for financial gain, inflicting severe, lasting harm on both the patient and their full-time live in caregiver.

Solutions & Initiatives

Establishing an Official Global Caregiver Holiday

Our primary global mission is to champion and establish an official, legally recognized annual global holiday dedicated to honoring unpaid caregivers for their heroic efforts, immense sacrifices, and vital contributions to society. We also wish to recognize and honor the amazing doctors, nurses, lawmakers, supportive friends, religious and community leaders, volunteers, and government agencies and employees who rarely get credit for their part in supporting and helping these heroic unpaid caregivers.
